And the Winner is…

Thanks to all those that submitted a ‘Frugal February’ tip over the last month – we were very impressed and inspired by your frugalness! So which tip earned its author a $250 shopping spree? Drumroll please…

Congratulations Lucy M! We really appreciate you sharing your savings tips below – they’ve obviously had a hugely positive impact on your family, and are so easy for others to implement too.

If you have a spare jar and a phone, make sure you give Lucy’s tips below a try…

“This sounds a little corny but we put a save jar on the bench so as a family we’d all be committed to saving.  We started out by writing down when we saved money that we’d usually spend, and put it into the jar.  By the end of the first weekend with the save jar we’d saved $180 by not getting takeaway on Friday, not going out to breakfast on Sunday and swapping the beach for the public pool. After a month of this, the savings started to snowball.  We stopped buying lunches at work and school, rode our bikes a couple of times a week to save on parking and CityLink and stopped eating out so much.  The biggest difference though was renegotiating the mortgage and our utility suppliers. After a year of this, we couldn’t believe how much we’d saved (or how much we usually spent).  It was enough that one of us could reduce our hours at work!”

And thanks to all your clever contributions, we’re happy to report that we’ve just donated $1000 to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal to help those affected by the bushfires get back on their feet.

If you followed our ‘Frugal February’ campaign, we hope you felt inspired to save some cash to kick off the year. If you haven’t had a chance to check out the tips yet, make sure you jump onto our Tips & Inspiration page… it’s never too late to start saving money!
